How can I tell if I am a baritone or a tenor?

What is a second tenor/baritone?

  • Can someone explain all this to me? I went to my schools choir teacher and I did la la la test, he said that my voice is second tenor/baritone but more of a tenor. I cant sing low notes with ease. I can go as high as the soprano range in falsetto/head voice. Then my classmates say that my vocal tone is high pitched, and bright. So can anyone explain this to me? Am I turning into a tenor or am i just a baritone with high notes?

  • Answer:

It means you sing a bit higher than tenor without stretching too much. But can also reach lower tones like a tenor. You are not a natural soprano, so he will use you for the lower tones so you dont injure your vocal cords reaching notes you are not easily reached. Your throat is like any other muscle, if you push it too far it will fail and tear and cause damage. Your teacher is just finding your most comfortable range. Good luck to you and enjoy the Music!!
