My laptop monitor remains black after I turn it on. the normal start up doesn't even begin. I have Windows 7. Is there a way to boot it?

It might be as simple as a burned out Back-light. Laptops use whats called CCFL lamps which is basically a florescent tube behind the LCD screen itself. These are what give the laptop their brightness. Just like normal florescent bulbs, laptop CCFLs burn out as well. The prices are very cheap, usually costing $3-$8 each. It's a fairly simple procedure, and there are directions on tech websites to do this, however I highly recommend having a certified computer tech to do the job. It only takes about 2 hours, but can be complicated depending on the laptop model. Have the tech test the inverter while he has the screen apart to make sure thats still good.

We have the same problem with our laptop. When we called the manufacturer about it, they informed us that the mother boards in that particular model were bad, and could be replaced for a measly $300. LOL Good luck with your laptop.
