How to develop a photographic memory?

how can one develop a photographic memory or a good memory in general?

  • Answer:

It can be developed - from what I remember (obviously a lack of development here...) the trick is to associate things that are hard to remember with things you can't forget, usually thorough "intentional association" or Mnemonics. I once saw a lecture about it - the presenter remembered a list of about 50 objects in the right order simply by mentally placing those objects at locations around his memory of his own home - then he mentally walked around the home recalling the objects (a football nailed to the front door, a fish hung on the peg inside the hallway - three jam jars on the floor of the corridor to the kitchen... that sort of thing). It's the same idea as mnemonics - like the old classic "Richard Of York Gained Battles In Vain" that we learned as children to remember the colours of the rainbow - Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet. A business associate of mine remembers increadible details about clients for years by association - often not very flattering ones either...
