Why is it easy to believe Lincoln and Washington existed but difficult to believe Jesus existed, when all are history?
-
Don't you think it's quite interesting that many of us have absolutely no problem believing that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln existed and we didn't see them or have any proof except what we read in American History, but it's almost impossible for a lot of us to believe that Jesus existed? Also, the Bible is a part of history, just a more important part of history. What are your thoughts on this?

Answer:
There are no atrefacts that can be directly attributed to Jesus, but plenty that can be directly linked to Washington and Lincoln. Nice try, but it ain't gonna fly.

We have documents, letters, portraits, even sources outside of our own country to verify the existence of such individuals. Down to the very day they were born, the very place, the date of death and (if pressed far enough) we can exhume the bodies and provide DNA analysis to prove the existence of the two. We have homes belonging to the both of them, we have a wide variety of historical treasures attributed with both of them. Speeches given, policies enacted, wars fought. A ton of stuff. You couldn't pick two more verifiable figures in American History if you tried. They're two of the most famous. Washington for his role in the Revolutionary War and Lincoln for his role in leading the nation through the Civil War. Jesus, on the other hand, had a biography written about him decades after his death by many people who never even met him. He can't be traced by any DNA evidence, and the only thing we MAY have on the guy is his teachings which could have easily been any other person at the time, in any lesser of a role, just meshed together collectively under that name. In all reality we don't have anything short of hearsay evidence to his birth! Many scholars can't even agree on the exact date or time of his birth! As funny as that may be Jesus was not born on December the 25th, even if he DID exist. A pagan holiday stolen is a pagan holiday stolen. Christians loved assimilating pagan tradition into their own. It made controlling the masses all the easier. Blah blah blah. Lots of thoughts, wasted words. etc etc etc.

No proof, what are you talking about, we have documents with their signatures on them, there are old photographs of Abraham Lincoln in museums, I am not getting were you are saying there is no proof of their existence. As to the bible, yes there are some historical things that happened in the bible, i know some of the things talked about like some of the wars and cities were actually around but all the mystical stuff like god letting satan screw up that one dudes life to prove a point, the parting of the sea when Moses led away the slaves from the egyptians, virgins birthing messiahs there is no proof of that. Also the fact that some biblical historians (note these are actually biblical historians saying this) that some of the books of the bible were not written by the apostles but instead people forging their names.

As others have mentioned, there are artifacts to support the belief that Lincoln and Washington existed, but none to verify the existence of the Christian messiah. We have letters and signatures, and even photographs of Lincoln. The only evidence we have for the existence of Jesus is hearsay.

At least there is plenty of proof that Lincoln and Washington actually existed. I mean there are pictures, handwritten documents and everything. What does Jesus have? The Shroud of Turin which may or may not be him.

That's the same thing I've said,,,,,they should have J.C on US money !

Most of what we "know" is not apprehended by direct knowledge. I've never been to Peru, but I "know" it's there because I believe the sources that say so. All of historic knowledge is in the same situation; it's a question of judging the sources and forming a conclusion. Although I believe that Jesus existed, there is certainly more proof for the existence of the other figures you cited, there are even photographs of Lincoln. Part of what makes historic claims more or less believable is time. The further back, the greater the chance for distortion. That said, accepting the existence of the historic Jesus is a long way from accepting his divinity.

The Constitution is more important that the Bible. And I know George and Abe lived...... Jesus as an amalgamation of several historic Jews

Perhaps it is the "timing of the event" since individuals, during Word/Jesus Christ’s time , were not as sophisticated or educated but were rather barbaric. Word/Jesus Christ chose individuals with little education as his followers and it is evident in their writing for the bible.
