Why won't my Slim Universal remote control turn on?

my bush tv will not respond to any button on my remote control. the red light is on and the remote flashes but nothing it wont even turn on

    I've never heard of that brand before. The remote doesn't work but how about the buttons on the TV itself?. If they work then try replacing the batteries on the remote. Always buy name brands like Sony or Sharp when you buy a TV. They may cost more but you'll have fewer headaches.
