Why do people who feed their dogs and cats raw meat/bones think this? (See description?
-
Why do they think that dogs and cats are some how magically impervious to parasites and food born illnesses and they claim that any vet who gives them scientific evidence to prove otherwise is part of some big conspiracy and is being paid off by dog food companies? And why do they believe claims such as raw meat will some how cure allergies (when nothing has been found to cure them) even if you feed the very thing that the animal is allergic to but in raw form? If something is allergic to chicken, it's going to be still be allergic to it whether it's cooked or not.

Answer:
Some people are still old fashioned when it comes to animals and figure that in the old days people fed their animals raw meat, or that if the animal was on it's own it would hunt and eat raw food. Animals can get food borne illnesses just like people (usually worms.) As for allergies being cured by raw meat that's a first for me. One of my cats is allergic to Tidy Cats litter and we switched her litter our vet never once said give her raw meat and she'll be fine.

I usually don't feed my dogs meat bones. They can splinter and become stuck in the animals mouth or intestines. A blockage will lead to the animals death. If I have to give them a bone, my wife cooks it until it's almost falling apart. I would only give them knuckle bones and remove the pieces that they may choke on.

Agreed. I don't give mine any type of raw meat or raw bones. Everything is cooked/boiled first. They can definitely get a parasitic infection from anything raw. Their digestive system is just as sensitive as any human beings.

I feed my dog Purina Dog Chow, my cat gets Purina Cat Chow. They are both happy and healthy. We were once given some "organic and natural" dog food and we slowly mixed it in and it gave my dog the runs and she farted horribly. We have respectfully delined any further gifts of that sort. Whatever was in that stuff messed her up. You could see she was uncomfortable and I had to basically be ready to take her out at any time, in an instant.

No animal NATURALLY eats cooked meats. Dogs have a short digestive tract designed to process raw meat. It is made so that food moves through quickly, too quickly for bacteria to develop. Furthermore, they have a much stronger stomach acid than people. This cuts through meat and also kills bacteria.
