Does anyone else find it a turn off that Google+ exceeded its capacity? I mean, for a site as big as Google, isn't that bad?

In the modern-age when you can get an account without an invite on a site like Facebook, what's the point in excluding potential members and making them feel left out? Just for beta testing? Oh, but you have to get an invite for beta testing from a friend or some stranger you don't even know? It's not something you can just sign up for and express interest in, like when Facebook was looking for people to test out their Questions feature and when Answerbag was looking for people to check out their Early Adopter feedback page. They didn't excluse ANYONE who used their sites. They put the option out there for people to join. That's more reasonable, isn't it? People who are interested in it without all the crap get to look into it. As for people who aren't? Well, they don't have to test it out. They don't have to feel "left out". If someone wants in, they don't have to beg friends like a nagging child or wife or husband for an invite. They can just say "Hey, I'm interested" and that's enough. That's the way it should be. I get that that the invites worked for Gmail, but is it going to work for this as well? It feels childish in a way. Like "You're not cool enough to join this group because you can't in. Haha! This fort is for boys only. You suck." I know this used to be the cool thing, but is it still? Have we, you know, grown up? Or are we just as childish as before? The worst part of it, in my eyes, is that I read about Facebook Friend Exporter. Why is Google+ claiming exceeded capacity if it seems to have all the resources in the world to make apps in an attempt to steal your friends information off Facebook and bring it to Google+ just because it happens to be viewable to you? The only conclusion I can draw from this so far is that Google+ excludes you on purpose, but then they want to take your information. They say they value your privacy, but then they actively take your information from you on Facebook, even if you didn't share it with them in the firs

Answer:
You make an assumption that adults are less prone to the emotions of being accepted and rejected than children. The reality is that most advertisement is designed to sell you stuff so you can be part of the club. More stuff is sold when the desire to be 'part of' causes more people to get one of whatever it is that is being sold. When we are told that something is better than what we have, there is the implied notion that better than means more people - better people - will have what we don't. Thus when DSL and Broadband came out - those who got it mostly got it to be part of the 'better crowd' than those with dial-up. Even though back in the day there was really not that much improvement. In all things that have a price tag, exclusion is done via a $. For this 'free' thing, making it invite only will generate far more interest, and will lead to people using their power to invite to spread the word, further, those who are not getting a ticket will want that ticket even more. Desire to be 'part of' the in crowd has been with humanity for all of recorded time. You do not find many people striving to sit with the Nerds - but nearly everyone has a desire to strive to sit at the 'perfect people' table. Its human, and yes its being exploited.

i think google+ is better. it lets you have closer connections with few people who are actually your friends, and not like facebook where you have like 800+ friends and see and talk to about 5% of those people on a daily basis.

They say they value your privacy, but then they actively take your information from you on Facebook, even if you didn't share it with them in the first place. Is this promoting privacy . . . or is this promoting hoarding information? Is this living up to their advertising or not? I thought Google+ was supposed to be about controlling who you share things with, so why are they not practising what they are preaching? Am I misunderstanding something here?
