How do I stop a scratchy violin?

How to stop my pinky from getting stuck when I play violin?

  • I asked my teacher and he said it's normal because I'm growing and the tendons can get stuck sometimes. It's just like I'm playing a note with fourth finger, or if I shift with 4th finger it gets like locked in position and I have to take my hand off the violin and click my finger straight again. lol. It doesn't hurt, it's just weird and I have a big audition soon and I don't want to have to stop in the middle of my piece to click my pinky.

I've played for 10 years, my callouses are pretty thick. My fingertips are fine, it's just the joint that's funny. I'll grow out of it no doubt, but I really wish there was something I could do so that I don't have to stop and unkink my pinky in front of the judges o_0

Your teacher seems to know the fix for your problem. Hopefully as you progress in your playing your finger will adjust. Weren't your fingertips tender when you first started? Pratice is the key and I wish you good luck ...
