yes, I use a system for MP3 player on one of my sets. Sound is great. Feed from sound out to stereo input. My bedroom speakers are computer power speakers. On the stand by the bed with volume control. TV had headphone jack and I feed the speakers with copper wire. Sound is good and when my wife is sleeping I can turn hers down and mine to level I need. I started doing this years back. had an old 8 track system and it had turntable RCA jacks. I plugged the TV head phone jack in the phono jacks nad we had real sound.

yes, no problem, you want to have some pretty good speakers for best sound though.

I have a set hooked up to my HDTV and they work fine...

Sure...just check the impedance first and if it's a high power speaker, you TV may not have the output to drive it sufficiently
