Is it normal to have a fetish with the ears of cats?
-
I have loved the ears of cats all my life. I like those of dogs too but not nearly as much as cats. I like to massage them, play with them, fold them back, put them in my mouth and lick them or sometimes bite them a little bit but not to hurt the cat. I do everything you can think of with them. Just the ear itself though. I do not dig down inside it or put anything in it or nothing. And I can play with the ears of cats for hours at a time. And they usually like it, or just get used to it and don't mind. I can't explain it. And I'm really glad I though of this, because I'm so used to it I wouldn't have thought to ask it here. I have never known anyone else to ever have a fetish with the ears of cats. (The reason I say the "ears of cats" is because I don't know if I'm supposed to say "cat's ears" or "cats' ears".)

Answer:
I didn't think much of it until you said that you could do it "for hours at a time".

"An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment." So cites dictionary.reference.com as one of several uses of "fetish". A person can take anything or anyone or any part of and allow themselves to become obsessed with it. With the above usage, I must admit that my "fetish" is music! So, now comes the more important set of questions such as why I am preoccupied and who sets the boundaries for what is and isn't preoccupation. Psychology, or "the science of mind" if you will, is not so empirically evidenced as to allow any one person to provide an absolute answer. This is seen in almost any two or more books or studies by different individuals in the field. I guess it all comes down to what YOU think, right? If I told you, no it's not normal, would you believe me and consider shortening the hours to minutes?

As fetishes go, that's pretty benign.

I say that it is normal. Many people have something that fascinates them or would be a fetish for them. That is just my professional opinion on the matter, if you really wanna know I suggest seeing a real psychologist.
