How long should long runs be?

how long must a recession last before we are allowed to determine that the economic experts havent a clue how it runs?

  • as a mechanical engineer, if my ideas are wrong it will be proven by something not working. I do not get to say "it's on it's way to working, jsut be patient" or if it works for a little while then stops working I do not get to blame it on natural flows of engine lifespans and say "just leave it alone, it'll come back" (gremlins are the mechanical version of fairies) the economy tanked in 98 at a time when we had a hands off president. no government official threw a wrench into the works but economics and bussiness majors blame government intervention. after pointing out the crash occured before intervention they say economic seasons are natural and it will recover if you leave it alone (so what are the economics version of gremlins/fairies?) as with the seasons of earth there is a causality in economic colapses. to claim something is natural simply says "we do not know the causality" if they do not know the causality then how can they be so certain that the theory that just as a food chain colapses without plant life, an economy colapses without the masses having reasonable wages? how long must their "attempts" to fix the economy by neglecting it's foundation fail before we are allowed to say they are wrong?

Haven't you been listening? The "recovery" has been going on for years now. If we keep recovering at this rate there should be nothing left in a decade. Also, there has not been a "hands-off" government in over a century.

As an engineer you suddenly have a clue how to fix the economy? I guess that is why your theories are becoming so famous? I am not trying to insult you but I just want to point out that an criticizing an idea becomes important only if you do it for the right reasons. An economy is not a mechanical thing. It does not follow a system of algorithms since it is composed of humans that BEHAVE. Economists do not only blame big government. Also economists do not know everything. But one thing is for sure, no economists believe we should "leave an economy alone" during a recession. If economics is stupid maybe you should give up your cell phone, job, car, bank account, house, and clothes of your back. All those things were part of an economic decision..
