What in your opinion are the qualities that make for a good friendship?

I think personalities are a consideration, probably unconsciously. I also believe that likemindedness is typical but, in my case, not required. I have friends who embrace many different belief systems both religious and political but I understand the concept of belief and decision making and realize that closely held beliefs can change and also, very often cloud reasonable assumption. I try to take people as they arrive and allow them whatever opinions they find acceptable and whether I agree with them is basically superfluous as applies to the definition of friendship. There are examples of people with whom I could probably not have as friends but they are glaringly unacceptable to reasonable people.

Maybe it's a matter of character.. I have many friends that do not live in the USA....

Honest/kind/caring/fun/loving/peacef ul/willing to help/take time to be with you/understand you/don't judge you/think best of you/want best for you/will be there is bad times also.
