Did you know that single wall carbon nanotubes are creating a breakthrough in hydrogen storage?
-
For certain Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes the hydrogen chemisorption can provide more than 7% wt exceeding the Department of Energy, Car Free standard of 6 wt % http://www.nanowerk.com/spotlight/spotid=4154.php

Answer:
Yes, but the cost of the nanotubes is about $400,000 a Kilo, the whole world supply is under a Kilo per month, and there are plenty of technical gotchas like durability, shock resistance, and poisoning. and nobody wants to pay three times as much as gasoline costs, for Hydrogen. Otherwise okay.

Analyze the rules I listed for you. Your missing all my information in comments. I am preparing to show the current trend of nanotube production.

>I will need to get pricing for hydrogen hydride storage systems to verify your claim of $100 million per vehicle. My guess is your probably grossly wrong. Your original "question" was about carbon nanotube storage, and I gave you the numbers, and you haven't responded with a single fact contradicting my analysis. Now you're sideslipping by trying to change the subject to hydride storage, which is a whole different pot of salmon. Slightly better price-wise than nanotubes, but still ridiculous. And as for those "resonant electrolyzers", that's old stuff, five years old and the guy never showed a thing, which is to be expected, as the law of Conservation of Energy has not been repealed. Nobody is developing "resonant electrolyzers".

hydrogen storage is one technique for hydrogen fuel I will need to get pricing for hydrogen hydride storage systems to verify your claim of $100 million per vehicle. My guess is your probably grossly wrong. The more interesting approach is ondemand hydrogen systems and that are being developed using resonant electroylzers.

>Prove you errored assumption that a hydrid system will cost millions of dollars. Sigh. Here's the math: Carbon nanotubes can hold, in the laboratory, and for who knows how long or how many times, 6% their weight in Hydrogen. For a reasonable range, I'd like a car that can hold the equivalent of ten gallons of gas. Gas weighs six pounds per gallon, so we need 60 pounds of Hydrogen (this is being kind-- Hydrogen has less energy per pound than gasoline-- we should be asking for like 100 pounds). At 6% per weight, we need 60/0.06 or 1000 pounds of carbon nanotubes. That's about 500 kilos, or 500,000 grams At today's price, from the source you mentioned, carbon nanotubes are, in large quantity, $200 a gram. $200 times 500,000 is exactly $100 million dollars. That's just the wholesale cost. The parts of a car typically run about 35% of it's retail price, so this car would have to sell for about $300 mil. I don't think even Bill Gates would go for this.

Prove you errored assumption that a hydrid system will cost millions of dollars does a fuel cell car cost a million dollars?

I have a mother thank you you can stop warning wahhhhh

You're cherry-picking and mixing and matching little factoids. I've warned you about taking stuff out of Wikipedia. The table you borrowed your info from is just a set of proposed mileposts, which were not met, and had nothing at all to do with nanotubes.
Ancient_Hacker
Wow, you are ancient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_storage storage cost in 2005 was $6 a kWh of power and predicted to drop to $2 a kWh of power system cost will be about $1000 in 2005 dropping to $333 by 2015 The nanotube don't fill the who system. They are mixed with the hydride.
