Does account balance in bank help to get credit card from bank?

• Do I need a chequing/savings account in a bank to get a credit card from that bank? Does it improve my chance to get a card if I have an account there cause when I called telephone banking once, the person offered me a credit card sayin he's sure I would qualify cause I assume he saw my account bal.was near $10000. I doubt he'd that willing to offer me a card if I didnt have an account there and he'd have to do a credit check before being so willing to give me a card,right?

Your best best is to get a secured credit card where the credit card is attached to a savings account where you can charge as much as you have in the bank. An alternative to that is a credit card from a store like Macy's. Usually they're easier to get because the store wants you to buy from them. And you can try applying to credit cards online. Some banks aren't particular.
