Should technogeeks be the ones to set up a social website or should it be the low tech socially adept people do it?

That;s the billion-dollar question, in all walks of life. Do you let the technically competent people do it, or the others? If you let the geeks do it, it may end up working very well-- speedy, stable, etc. But it may not meet the needs of the average person. If you let the Liberal Arts crowd do it, it will look lie the old AskVille, but also work like the old AskVille, with sooo many fumbles, duplications, limitations, dead-ends, and you-cant-get-there-from-here's.

Well if the high tech.ones did the improvements to this site ,I vote for the low tech ones from now on.

We were lied to us. They said they were going to make it better. If this is an example of technogeeks, then I vote for low tech social people.

Should the WATB be the ones to dictate what constitutes a social website, or the adults?

The low tech folks know social. The high tech folks know other stuff.

I don't want to make the teckies feel that they don't have a legitimate place in modern society since we wouldn't have that society without them. However, they need to recognize that while they are strong when it comes to technology that they may not be strong in the non technology arena.
