How can I organize cot sheets at a daycare?

Am I responsible for a cot my child supposedly damaged at a daycare?

  • On Friday while picking my 5 yr old up from a licensed daycare in Alabama, the owner of the daycare demanded that I pay her and additional $35.00 for a cot she claimed my daughter was jumping up and down on and broke on Monday. My fiance and I ask every day how she behaves, given that she is a very "excitable" child, but all the daycare workers ever tell us is that she was well behaved. The daycare owner was both rude and demanding as if she assumed that we had known about the incident the entire time, even though she is usually the one there from whom I retrieve my child from. It is my understanding that they were monitoring my child as I pay them for and if she was doing something like jumping up and down on a cot an employee would stop the behavior before anything was damaged. Also, don't licensed daycares in Alabama receive monies from the states or at least tax deductions for business expenses for such things? I would appreciate any input on this question.
