This review is from: Protec TENOR SAX TRI CASE (TENOR SAX, CLARINET, FLUTE) (Electronics) As a long-time pro and doubler, I was saddened to have to finally replace my 30-year old Selmer Trey-pack case; so I was quite pleased to find a doubler's case from Protec. My aging back was also quite pleased to find the case to be lighter and "rollable". The Pros: 1. Compared to my old case: lighter, rollable (with extendable handle) and, since the clarinet and flute are separate from the sax enclosure, there's more room in the sax case proper. 2. Having the clarinet and flute in separate (very nicely padded), small cases mean that I can carry my doubles to my seat in their cases, bringing them out only if necessary. A nice bonus. 3. Since the tenor enclosure is not tightly form-fitted (the case has to fit any brand) my customized palm keys are not in danger, but the foam is tight enough around the bell to keep the horn in place. The Cons: 1. I get the feeling that perhaps the case was designed and tested only with a sax present; not with flute and clarinet in place (I'm no doubt wrong about that, but it's an impression). For instance, a. If I use the side handle to carry the big, wide case, I can expect leg bruises. The case is wider than my previous case, making it difficult to carry at my side. Thus, I'll be forever rolling the case, which leads to... b. My biggest complaint is that, when all three horns are packed in and it's standing tall-wise (on its casters), the flute and clarinet overbalance the case and it regularly topples.
