(Grand Island, NY USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: Yamaha RH10MS Professional Monitor Headphones (Electronics) I am a Pro Studio and Live Engineer who has worked with National Artist for 20 years. I have worked with most all brands of gear on the planet. I went to audition the new Yamaha HS80M monitors, (which I love and replaced my NS10M Studio monitors with them!), when I found these headphones. As a Pro Engineer, I have to have the truest representation of the stereo mix, and not only are these fantastic and truer than any headphone I've ever heard, but the natural S-Logic in them gives you a feeling that the speakers are 60 degrees apart from each other, rather than strapped to your head. This gives you a very true, accurate representation of how your mix will sound coming out of your monitors in your studio, or how it sounds coming out of a live PA! They are perfect paired with my Midas XL8 in a live setting as well. These are absolutely the same sound as the HS80M monitors, (Fantastic! Much better than my now retired NS10M Studio monitors) Other headphones have falsely inflated low end, or are too crisp, these are neither. They are accurate and true, and my studio now uses 7 pairs of these, and nothing else! If your monitors don't accurately sound like these headphones, than you have poor monitors and need to invest in a better quality system. For all of you engineers just starting out up to the seasoned veterans, there are no better headphones out there! Bravo Yamaha. Devenberg (Salem, OR) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: Pioneer VSX-521-K 5.1 Home Theater Receiver, Glossy Black (Electronics) I bought this unit (at a local Big Box store) because I felt at $250 it was a tremendous value given its features. Upon hooking it up and running the auto setup it sound pretty good. I thought it sounded great until I compared it to a Denon 1312 that I have since replaced it with (more on this in a bit). Don't be fooled into thinking this is a great sounding receiver. It is mediocre at best. The real problem was how much video noise it introduced into my Tv's picture. I have a 42" Insignia (Best Buy store brand) with a Panasonic Blu-Ray Disc Player and there were sooooo many artifacts in the picture (little black dots) that hadn't been there before. I had to turn the noise filter on both the player and the tv all the way up and drastically reduce the picture sharpness to make the noise levels livable, not even eliminate it. So I had to tune my picture settings for noise reduction, not picture quality and was contemplating returning it. Then the HDMI input labeled "BD" stopped working properly. It would display a picture but not put out any sound, regardless of what source and cable combo I tried. Combos that worked fine on any other input would give me zero sound. So I returned it and exchanged it for a Denon AVR-1312. While not as feature rich, it doesn't have a single one of the issues that this receiver had. No more picture quality issues, much better sound, better bass response from my subwoofer, in short every thing is better. It is worth giving up a few features to have a receiver that actually does its job properly. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? This review is from: Pioneer VSX-521-K 5.1 Home Theater Receiver, Glossy Black (Electronics) I picked this up as a replacement for a 10 year old Onkyo that's been a workhorse in my living room. Unfortunately, it was from an age without HDMI, so it was time for a change. Shipping was excellent, thanks to Amazon Prime. After unboxing, I read the manual, which is severely lacking as far as being able to understand it goes. I'm a techie, have been all my life, and I still found the instructions to be light on details and just plain hard to follow. Thanks to the internet, I was able to find a few good threads about the unit, so that helped. My siggestions for this is that this unit, though an entry to HT, should be passed up for something else if the person isn't HT savvy. As far as performance goes, it is working well. The included MCACC setup worked like a charm. Even though I loved my Onkyo, I found myself always adjusting the outputs over the years. With the Pioneer, I connected the included MIC, went through the on-screen setup, and done. And remarlebly well, I mught add, as I've never had better sounding surround. My only other peeve is with bass response. I have never liked the idea of using a sub-woofer, mostly because of the added space and expense to have it. My Onkyo was well able to conpmensate with just the front channel Bose speakers. The Pioneer is very light on this, which may force me to get a subwoofer now. All in all, the product was good and I am satisfied with the performance. As I stated earleir, this unit is NOT for the non-technical folk that might want to try it. My advice would be to tr Source: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-VSX-521-K-Theater-Receiver-Glossy/dp/B004M8RPAY/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1315831741&sr=1-1
