The hangers have a flocked coating which is soft, slightly-fuzzy, like thin velvet or felt fabric. This coating prevents clothes from sliding off the hangers onto the closet floor. The coating is not scratchy, and will not harm silk or other fine fabrics. I have owned some for about 6 months. The same brand has similar hangers in other colors. No problems so far. They seem sturdy enough for normal use. Although the wrapper label says these are "suit" hangers, they are my first choice for hanging any clothes. These hangers are THIN; they take up very little space in the closet, unlike traditional suit hangers. These are even thinner than the common, cheap, tubular plastic hangers that you have probably seen everywhere. After switching to these hangers, I was able to fit more clothes in my closet. The same company also makes "shirt hangers" with the same felt flocked coating (ASIN B000R9XKWO). The main difference between the "suit" hangers and the "shirt" hangers, is that the suit hangers have a horizontal bar across the bottom edge. The horizontal piece across the bottom makes them sturdier, compared to the "shirt" hangers which lack the horizontal bottom piece. It seems much easier to accidentally break the "shirt" hangers. Therefore, I don't buy the similar "shirt" hangers. Instead, I buy plenty of these sturdy "suit" hangers, and use them for shirts, blouses, dresses, blazers, almost anything. The "soft grip friction suit hangers" looked similar and I decided to buy three sets. I was extremely disappointed. Four of the hangers were already broken when they were delivered. Since, 5 more have broken. If you press the metallic part only slightly, it detaches itself from the hanger part and you end up with a broken item. The quality of these hangers is mediocre and I would not recommend them to anyone. Different brands may sell really good hangers of a similar type, but the "soft grip friction suit hangers" are bad quality clones. She asked if i could find any of these style hangers and when I came across these she asked me to order them. They look exactly like the picture and work well. Quality of them seems to be good, none were broken and all are being used at this point to hang sweaters up.
