Elliott "eaddress" (California U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: Opteka 0.43x HD² Full Fisheye Lens for 37mm Digital Camcorders (Electronics) While there are certainly fisheye lenses with more pronounced distortion and definition, this is a decent and economical venture into the realm of visual effects for we amateur videographers. Despite its designation, it's not quite up to true HD standards. After road-testing this lens, degrees of degradation in image quality are noticeable, but not at all that terrible as long as you don't try to zoom in too much. I give the zoom lever on my Sony HDR CX100 one quick flip just to remove the black fisheye borders this lens creates in the corners of the image, or I keep it zoomed all the way out to leave them in - either way, the Opteka's picture quality is not compromised. Being only a mild-mannered conversion lens in its price range, you can't expect much more than adequate performance. If you're shooting exclusively in HD, as I am, and use this lens primarily for novelty shots to inject into your shows from time to time, then you'll probably get away with it - after all, a sort of avant-garde look is what we're trying to achieve here, isn't it? It comes with plastic caps, a pouch and a 5 year warranty, so we'll see how long it holds up under normal conditions and careful treatment.
