The following assumes you can type accurately and have good general intelligence, good work habits. Call up every doctor's office in your area, finding if there are job openings that include some form of transcription of doctor's dictation . It could be answering phone 70% of the day and typing some simple radiology reports or clinic notes. Don't worry about getting paid a lot. Hopefully you'll find some simple job that has somebody in the same room who knows all the words you don't know, somebody who's a better transcriptionist than you are. These are the best people to learn transcription from. The best way to learn transcription is on the job, and learn one specialty at a time. Work at a clinic for a year and you can probably hook a job at a hospital, where you'll have a mentor more than likely who will help you expand the specialities you can type. The best starting point for medical transcription is a good general education, the ability to hear clearly, and a passion for getting it right. You don't want to screw up somebody's medicine, you know, it can kill them.

The school that I attend has those classes. They are not free but there are grants available as well as loans. It only costs about $200 for the class and the books. I go to a technical college. You can get a technical diploma, a technical degree, or a certificate. The above price is only for the certificate. It is only for a transcription class. You can take the whole course which takes about 1 year to complete for about $1,000 including books.

Most companies require experience or participation in one of the top AAMT approved schools (not free). If your looking into Medical Transcription pay the extra in tuition to attend an 'approved' school. Many people have received training through inadequate programs only to find out that they are unable to find a job. Check out: http://www.mteducationonline.c... It is an affiliate site for Career Step. I attended Career Step and recieved a job (at-home) less than a week after graduating. Career Step is an AAMT (American Association for Medical Transcription) approved program and they are partnered with many of the major MT employers. In other words, their graduates get the jobs. Many companies require 2-3 years experience, however, a lot of these companies will waive this requirement if you graduate from the right school. Hope that helps! http://mteducationonline.com
