How have underwater hotels been making?

I have heard that bedbugs are making their rounds in even the nicest hotels. Do you check the bedding before getting into the bed and have you ever had to move to another room because of finding "something" in your bed? (Not just bugs)

  • Answer:

Yes, I always do. I fail to understand anyone who doesn't. I mean, why would you risk getting a bedbug infestation in your home and having your blood sucked?

This is true, especially in LA they say. Part of the illegal immigration issue that doesn't get much coverage is the return of diseases, etc. Tuberculosis is making huge surges as well, in San Francisco the TB cases are skyrocketing, a lot of it due to the illegal immigration of Chinese aliens who seem to quickly blend into the populations of CHinatown and spread the disease. Beyond the political posturing on either side, we need to get control of the issue for a lot of reasons whether it is terrorism, disease, economics, etc.

It is prudent to check any room for several things including nearest safety exit (by stairs, not elevator), cleanliness of the bathroom, checking for a hairdryer, the bed of course for bugs, clean sheets (the smell of bleach is good) and comfort, and always check the mini-bar to make sure nothing is missing.

I don't usually have a problem. I did find a used condom on the vanity unit when checking into a Marriott in London - I was gold on Marriott at the time so that got me upgraded to large suite for the week - I was not complaining!!!

A good while ago, I was very young, we got to a room, and it was CRAWLING and I mean CRAWLING with ants. I know they gave us a different room. But since I was like 4 I don't remember much more than that.

yes, go to http://www.snopes.com & check out the section about this & other things found in motel beds. I always check & lift the mattress(after I sprayed it)I always bring a bottle of bathroom cleaner as well as disinfectant spray with me to these rooms. I use to work as a maid in my younger teens & let me tell you it made me cringe when I seen how the other ones in housekeeping took short cuts. I always take my own towels too. I spray the remote control first & the phone second followed by the door knobs & light fixtures ect. And I never use the glasses in there without cleaning them first. I've heard about how they use the same rag they clean the tubs with to clean those glasses(yucky)

People should contact the goverment agencies that patrol the hotel inspections and hotels should get fined. And as for the person that said that illegal aliens brought this problem; it is not true. Every human being picks up germs and bugs everywhere. So do dogs and cats. It is part of living in the world.

Here is my "process": I turn down the coverlet/bedspread and fold it down all the way to the end of the bed. Then I pull back the blanket they put on the bed, all the way down. Then I pull back the white sheet and check the bed. Then I take my own travel blanket out of my bed and place it on the exposed sheet where I plan to sleep. I also sometimes travel with a DreamSak (a silk sleeping bag that packs really small). Hotels do not wash the bedspreads or blankets in between each guest - just the sheets and pillow cases. Bed bugs are so small. You can not see young ones or their eggs with the naked eye. You may see an adult bed bug - which can be as large as an apple seed, but they usually hide. http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vector/vector-faq1.shtml I also wear flip flops and never put my bare feet on the carpet.
