Will they find a cure for cancer? If so, when?

When we find ways to treat/cure common causes of death which plague us today (cancer / alzheimer's / heart disease / diabetes), will we be in the clear for immortality, or will we always find new plagues on the frontier of an increasing life expectancy?

  • Answer:

sorry never nature will always come up with more diseases and more potent variations of diseases faster than we could ever cure them...sorry

New plagues. Look at the solutions we already have - we discovered penicillin and it has saved many lives. But we are also discovering that there are antibiotic resistant strains of disease now. I think sometimes the solutions also cause their own problems, and we'll likely realize at some point that the consumption of too many chemicals of certain types tends to cause other sicknesses and diseases.

The only way to prevent death is to stop the aging process itself. I'm not sure that that is possible. Then again, there are some trees that have lived for hundreds of years. Those only die when something kills them. Maybe we'll eventually become like that.

I have a disease they just discovered recently, maybe in the past ten years... So who knows what the future will be.

I don't think that "plagues" come and go so often... I believe that people continuously get less and less healthy and physically strong. So whatever happens to whatever plague; life expectancy will reduce.

You would live a lot longer, but would not be immortal. There are other factors involved that could lead to the death of the subject. The individual could be murdered, commit suicide or die by accident. What if the person's entire body is totally and completely crushed? I think the question we should be asking ourselves is, how do we extend human consciousness and memories of ourselves once our bodies die? Would it be possible to transfer human consciousness from one body to the next or place biological brain cells into a robotic body to live forever? To accomplish this, might be possible, but I'm not entirely sure. The memories of the subject would have to be downloaded onto a computer throughout their life. You might be able to remove all the brain cells from a recently deceased person and inject gel based stem cells from the subject into the host brain. So long as the extent of the host is very minimal. Although, these new stem cells that would grow into new brain cells would have to grow in the same neuronal pattern as the subject's before they died. Then just download their memories from the computer onto the new host brain. Then you might have a modern day form of re-incarnation! I would also look into head transplants!! It all depends on the extent of the injury.
