A two-year degree is an Associates. It is the degree you'd get going to most community colleges. It will open some doors that a high school diploma will not, but not nearly so many as a bachelor's degree. It is common for a student to seek an Associates, then work for a couple of years before continuing their education. Most community college credits transfer easily to nearby state universities.

A two-year degree is often referred to as an associate's degree. This is the lowest formal degree you can obtain. Of course anytime you further your education, you will have more opportunities open up for you. I hope you consider school. Good luck to you either way! :)
