yes there are programs for reserve deputies and reserve police in many states. check with your local or county police dept. many depts have mounted patrols and ride alongs and even parttime service on your own. and especially during natural disasters etc. you will most likely have to go to an approved police academy or junior college program. and be certified as a police officer in your state and jurisdiction. nowadays most academies are at least 16 weeks.(or night school etc) and you have to take a state exam, called TCLOSE. the T here refers to the state of texas but all states have an X- close exam certification. texas (etc) certified law enforcement state exam..you can google your state`s

No such program exists and never will for liability reasons. First, civillians can never wear a police uniform, unless they have completed the training required at a police academy. the law forbids this. Second, a civillian in a police uniform, does not know the traffic and criminal laws, in order to enforce and make arrests. Three, civillians are not sworn police officers, they are civillians. The million dollar question is this............ If the occasion arose and you were a civillian, dressed as a police officer, could you take someone else's life? would you give your life in order to rescue a drowning civillian? do you even know how to swim? These are the reason that a civillian will never wear a police uniform, just for the fun of it. Being a police officer is a serious and dangerous occupation. There is a whole lot more involved that just wearing a uniform. The answer is no.

Civilians should help police their cities and neighborhoods (that's "police" the verb, not the noun) .. But they shouldn't dress like an officer, or pose as one... get their own uniforms if they want..
