How do I go about becoming an apprentice brewer?

How do i go about becoming a carpenter (apprentice) without joining a union? i am currently in the carpenters union and i dont like it.

  • Answer:

"How do I go about slitting my own throat?" Why don't you like the union? You're a member of the union, you have a voice. Tell your union rep what you don't like. Get involved. Become a rep yourself. Change what you don't like. How do you expect to be paid well without union representation? Don't say by working hard because I've known a hell of alot of hard workers in my time and the hard work has nothing to do with it. You're paid as little as the boss can get away with, remembering of course that he is in competition with all the other bosses. How can he pay you more if other bosses pay less? Oh yeah, bosses also have unions eg Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Yeah, it hasn't got the word 'union' in the name but that's what it is.

Stick with the union until you get your training done...in the long run you will do better in the union unless you want to start your own business...

Are you refereing to true carpentry or simply house building? I see no reason why a builder of wall units and desks and chairs would require you to join a union. of course their kind is quite rare in the USA. They are more like artist. House building is either union or almost slave labor.
