How can I put custom firmware on my PSP without a Pandora battery?

Hello I have got a psp official firmware V 3.71. Then I have got the custom firmware software V 3.71 m33-2 but everytime I press x it doesn't work. Then I bought a psp pandora battery but when I put the battery in it is a blank screen and the green light.

    The whole custom firmware thing took me almost a FULL day to figure out, but the good thing is once you have it, you shouldn't have to worry about doing it again.
