A few games that I like are only available in PC DVD-ROM, and my computer won't run them. Does this mean I have to get a new computer or 'bits' like a DVD/CD drive or can I upgrade the drivers or cards or something easier (and cheaper)?

Ouch... this is a very difficult question to answer without knowing more about the games you are wanting to play, and the computer you currently have. Here's the best I can do with what you've provided so far, and assuming your computer doesn't have a DVD drive: 1) If your machine currently has a CD ROM (optionally also a CD burner) drive, you can replace that drive with a DVD ROM drive (+ burner if you want) for easily less than $100. 2) Many (most?) newer games require high performance processors and/or video cards that may exceed your current machine's capability. Depending on your system, you might be able to upgrade the video card somewhat, but the CPU may keep your system from running well enough for the game. The game may also require more RAM. The best thing you can do is to find out what the specifications for your machine are then compare that to the "minimal" and "recommended" specs on the box of the video game you'd like to play. In many cases, it might well be cheaper to buy a whole new machine rather than to upgrade enough parts to run the game.
