How long does the batteries last in Guitar Hero?

Purchased Guitar Hero World Tour for my son for Christmas. We cannot get the guitar to work. Batteries are in. Everything is hooked up fine. Read and reread the directions. Doing everything exactly how it says. Still not working. HELP!

believe it or not but you need also a controller for the mic. My mate bought Rock Band for the PS2 plugged everything in and away you go , so I thought as we had 2 controllers we could use the drums and guitar, as the mic is usb and plugs into the back I expected it to work straight away, not so, you need a controller to use this as well. Thats another £30 I didn't expect to spend after forking out £140 for the complete boed tour game. Hope this is of use to you
