Although the battery life doesn't last very long on these security boxes, it has a keylock that will allow you to open the box if your battery dies. UNTIL Today! I couldn't open the safe! Not only will the knob keep going in circles as if the box is allowed to be open but when I used the key, it still wouldn't open! I started to panic because I needed some documents but luckily with a flathead, I was able to open this box in 10 minutes. I didn't want to open the safe by damaging it but I really didn't feel the need to use this security box anymore after having such a hard time getting it to open with a key. It might just be a defective lock but this shouldn't be the case for this type of product! I purchased this from walmart 5 years ago so this has nothing to do with amazon, but I just needed to write about the product!!! The box itself is well made and very easy to use. The very generic batteries that came with it did not last long though. Changing your code is very easy and it is quick for me to access the box, no fumbling. But it seems it would be very easy for an adult to break into the box as it seems like it could be pried open very easily. But for the cost that seems to be expected as it is very cheap. If you want something more secure you should expect to pay much more. I would not use this to keep valuables unless it was very well hidden.
