How is the current job market for networking?

I want to do some online networking to promote myself in the job market. I need advice on how to get started from a networking pro! Can anyone help?

  Hi, an excellent site for self promotion/publicity is http://www.zoomspec.com. All you need to do is create a profile. You can upload examples of your work to your portfolio (if what you do is suitable for this) some artists have uploaded images of their work, others have uploaded videos - check out Robart_j, speo etc. Create a video CV/Resume to support existing CV/Resume - if you are brave enough. This gives prospective employers the chance to get a more rounded view of who you are, what you can offer, your communication skills etc. There are some examples on the site. You can do this one of 2 ways, either use the video greeting tool on the site to record your presentation, or upload a video you have created elsewhere - maybe even on youtube. Create a blog,promote your skills in the classifieds, upload events, participate in the forums and simply network with others there - it will all help. The site has a wide range of members from artists, through to builders, plasterers and all sorts of other businesses including recruiters; so you have a ready made audience and potential employers to promote yourself to.
