What is the difference between an executive vice president and a senior vice president?

My company has an executive vice president of advertising and sales and a senior vice president in the publishing market of our company, who is also my sales manager. Whenever I introduce myself as a new sales rep for my company to people who know it well know that I work under the senior vice president in the publishing market. (They know him by name, but for the purpose of anonymity I will not mention his name.) Anyway, I don\'t understand these two VP\'s exact responsibilities, even though I\'ve been working for the company for almost 2 months now. I know it seems ignorant, but it\'s hard to ask what they do all day when they\'re not taking an interest in the work of the general sales reps.

An Executive is supposed to take an active part in the day to day running of an organisation. The Senior Vice president by definition is a senior member, well known and usually only brings experience, guidance, advice and new ideas to the company. Would it be considered offensive if you would ask them directly, or someone close to them, saying that you are very interested in the structure of your company and you want to thoroughly understand what everyone's responsibilities are?
