What (other than time) is the best thing to heal a broken heart?

My girlfriend broke up with me. I'm so depressed. I'm looking for a counselor because I've been fighting off suicidal thoughts recently. Can anyone help with advice or tips on how to heal a broken heart?... I know time heals all wounds, but I've already given this breakup 2 months and I still find myself deeply depressed. I'm afraid that if I give it more and more time, it will get worse and I'll be gone sooner than anyone expected.

I once was extremely depressed over a break-up and almost suicidal myself. After a year, we got back together and got married. I was so mad at myself for all the wasted tears and sadness - if I had known we were going to get back together I would have missed him but I would not have been so devastated. My point is that you just don't know what will happen.... you could get back together even though you completely think you won't (happened to me) or you could meet someone who totally sweeps you off your feet and you end up loving even more than your ex. Read what Khalil Gibran says about Joy and Sorrow (I am a Christian but I think he also has some good points). Keep yourself busy, listen to happy music, wear clothes that make you feel good about yourself. Force yourself to think about all the good things you do have in your life. And think of yourself as a character in a book, waiting to see what the next chapter holds for you.... because sometimes after a difficult time, you end up being happier than you have ever been in your life.
