Why are commercials getting longer and longer?

Is it just me or are the commercials on TV getting longer and longer?

    Longer, louder and more 'insane'. Commercials now have plots and story lines, and are often have several parts and in some instances they even tell you to go to the website for more. EXAMPLE: this car commercial that starts out with a UFO abducting the car, then you have the alien driving the car and a wormhole opens up, the alien teleports out and the car.... For more, go to ___________.com. This is called a 'cliff hanger'. Then you have commercials that are 'sitcoms' of their own right. How About Flo the insurance girl or the lizard fellow or the cavemen? I hate commercials, I hate the noise and I hate people telling me what to buy. I have stopped buying products due to overly stupid advertisement. As far as I know, no commercial has ever caused me to buy a product.

longer and longer and the shows shorter and shorter, you have to pay extra for minimal commercial T.V. and even more for non commercial T.V. and soon you wont even be able to buy a video unless you order it on line and maintain a yearly license for the privilege of keeping it in your own home just to view it even in private... ~Nemo~

Since businesses are equal to people, what better way to test and abuse brainwashing laws that are supposed to be enforced, if not enorceable. An auth of mine just uses Hulu and the other site, and got rid of cable, and her regular tv. As soon as I can, I'll follow her example.
