Can I change or hide my IP address?

How to Hide an IP Address Change

  • Answer:

Hiding your IP address change involves first purchasing a proxy server, or proxy service, and then configuring your computer to direct traffic through that server or service. This process allows other computers to make transactions with your computer without your computer being identified by its IP address, regardless of whether your address has been changed manually or is dynamic (changes upon each system restart). Once you set up the proxy server to hide your IP address, all future Internet traffic will be routed through the proxy server. Difficulty: Moderately Challenging Instructions Select and purchase a proxy server (see Resources). Obtain the IP address and communication port for your proxy server. Start Internet Explorer 8. Select "Tools," then select "Internet Options." Select the "Connections" tab. Click "LAN Settings." The LAN Settings window appears. Enable "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN." Type the IP address for your proxy server in the "Address" field. Type the port to be used in the "Port" field. Click "OK." Tips & Warnings Tip: You can validate that the redirection has worked after configuration by visiting IPLocateInfo (see Resources) and confirming that the proxy address is displayed.
