Answer:
It is very frustrating to anyone who works on the computer for the Internet connection not to work. It wastes time and money is potentially lost. Before you call your Internet Service Provider to come and check it out for you, charging an astronomical amount, there are a few things you can do to try and get your laptop to connect to the Internet. Start with the obvious and work your way up to the not so obvious. Difficulty: Easy Things You'll Need Phone cord Instructions Check all the plugs for the wireless router to make sure there are not tangles or crimps in the wires. Unplug the power cord, wait 10 seconds and plug it in again to reset the router. Restart your computer. Give your computer a few minutes before you continue with the next idea to see if it will connect to the Internet on its own. Make sure you have a connection to the Internet. Click on the Internet icon in the lower toolbar of your laptop screen. Scroll through the list if there are neighboring Internet connections, and click on yours. Click on “Connect” in the lower right corner of the window. Enable your Internet connection by clicking on the “Start” menu, “Connect To” and then “Show All Connections.” Right-click on the Internet connection you want to use. Click on disable and then follow the same steps to re-enable the Internet connection. Observe the weather, as some wireless Internet connections are disturbed during rain or snow. Take note of the weather if it is bad and wait it out. Notice the time of day if you have consistent problems, as sometimes the Internet provider overloads at certain times of the day. Plan to work on your laptop at another time of day if this is the problem for you. Try using a direct connection by physically attaching your laptop to your wireless router. Bring the router within the vicinity of your laptop and use a phone cord to connect them. Call the service provider if your connection is still not working, as you may have a bad router. Tips & Warnings Tip: As a last resort, shut down your laptop, unplug your router and leave everything sit overnight. Plug the router back in in the morning and reboot your computer to see if a night off makes any difference. Tip: Call your Internet service provider if none of the above works. It may be that they are having problems and are working them out. If not, they can check the lines that come into your house and see if there is a problem there.
