How do you make a dream catcher?

How to Make a Dream Catcher Step-by-Step

  • Answer:

Dream catchers derived from Native American culture as a way to capture evil spirits during the night. The woven design is fashioned after a spider's web. Hang a dream catcher above your bed to ensnare any unpleasant thoughts or feelings from entering your dreams. If you are interested in creating an authentic Native American dream catcher, use Red Willow tree branches bent in a circle, animal sinew for the web and feathers found in nature. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Things You'll Need 6-inch diameter hoop, metal, plastic or wood Roll suede cord or thin ribbon Hot glue gun Twine or yarn 3 medium size beads 4-inch-long craft feathers Instructions Use a 6-inch diameter hoop that is made of plastic, metal or wood for the base of the dream catcher. Attach the end of a roll of suede cord -- you can use thin ribbon, if desired -- to the hoop perpendicularly using hot glue. Wrap the cord around the hoop so that the edges overlap; you want to cover the hoop completely. Add hot glue beneath the cord every 2 inches to hold it in place. Form a 2-inch diameter loop with the cord after you have finished wrapping the hoop. Hot-glue the end of the loop to the hoop; cut the cord from the roll. Use this loop for hanging the dream catcher. Cut a 16-foot piece of twine. Use yarn instead of twine, if desired. Tie one end of the twine around the hoop to the right of the cord loop in a tight double knot. Pull the free end of the cord around the front of the hoop. Wrap it over the hoop tightly but not so tight the hoop bends. Bring the cord from the underneath of the hoop and up through the wrapped cord on the left side of the cord. Pull the cord across to the right of the first ring around the hoop. Form a second loop 2 inches away from the first ring. Wrap the cord around the front of the hoop and back through to the front by inserting it through from the bottom to the left of the ring. Repeat this method until you have went all the way around the loop until you are approximately 1 inch from the hanging loop; do not cut the cord. Place the next ring around the middle of the cord attached from the first loop to the first ring. Loop it around in the same manner you did with the outer circle using the straight pieces of cord to attach the rings. Continue until you cannot add any more rings to the outer circle. Bring the cord in to the inside of the second circle to form the third circle. Thread a bead on the cord anywhere on the cord in this circle; this will symbolize the spider in the web. Continue wrapping the cord until you have 1 inch remaining in the center of the web. Tie the cord into a knot on the web at the end point; you should have some cord remaining, but if you do not have at least 6 inches tie this amount of cord on the end. Thread two beads on the cord. Tie the hard end of a 4-inch-long craft feather to the end of the cord. Tips & Warnings Tip: Look for colored suede and twine for a more vibrant dream catcher.
