Free sources of historical financial data - market indices, etc.
-
I create my own spreadsheets for stock tracking and market analysis, and I'm looking for a good data source, free, for historical market data. Not just one-time quotes, but data tables that I can download into Excel. I currently use Yahoo Finance for individual stocks, but I am also looking for broader data I can use, for example in the 'Fed Valuation Model', such as 10 Year T Bond yield, and S&P 500 Operating Earnings Per Share (52-wk forward consensus). Anybody know where I can get access to such data?

Answer:
A fairly new website I found for free historical financial data like you want is http://www.freefinancialdata.com/. They have links to a number of resources that will let you download historical data tables to Excel for stocks, bonds, FX rates, etc.
