Where is a good crabbing spot in New Jersey and what time of the year should I go?

I'm looking to take my dad crabbing sometime in August. I heard August is good for crabbing. I do not have a license. I am basically a crabbing newbie, the only time I went was when my friend took me one time, but I didnt do much because I was new to it. I'm only looking to go crabbing about once this year. How long do licenses last? What is the best deal? I have a good idea of the actual crabbing; I just need info on preparation. Is there anything else I need?
