  Grade School/Elementary School - memorize the numbers and how to write them. Next, learn all the addition, subtraction and multiplication facts as to how numbers combine to make new numbers. Middle and High School - learn whatever new formula is in your particular class (algebra, statistics, etc.). Mathematics is a subject that requires lots of practice - just like sports! Once you memorize the basic facts, you will need to practice until you are comfortable with doing the work, and can do it correctly. One way to help learn lots of facts is to put them into a song - instead of just saying the facts, try singing them to the music of one of your favorite songs. Or just find a rhythm and say the facts over and over until you can remember them. Practice, unfortunately, is always going to be something you just have to do again and again until you get it right. For geometry/trigonometry, my top tip would be hand-drawing the various graphs/shapes, and applying the formulas directly on them, hence understanding the practicality of it, not just memorising the algorithm.
