How do you begin homeschooling a teenager?

  First, you need to realize that the teenager (or any child leaving school for homeschool) needs some time off. That said, there are many resources, and many ways to homeschool - from strict school-at-home to unschooling, and everything in between. It is legal in all 50 states of the US and in almost every country. There are some great books you can check out from your local library (I recommend Grace Llewellyn's "Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education") and on the internet (such as www.unschooling.com where, if you follow the links, you can find out about state laws and such, and www.homeedmag.com with lots of information on the various approaches). Good luck. Homeschooling your teenager or child will probably be the most rewarding thing you will ever do. Just give it a little time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What support and education are you able to give them - will you need to acquire additional study help? If so, you may want to contact the government agency; and get either a tutor, counsellor (yes, times may get hard!), or school coordinator. Has your teenager finished high school or are they doing this as well/instead? Your teenagers teachers may be able to help you - or put you in touch. They might also be able to recommend some books and study guides. If it was me, id want to be equipping them with the best education possible. So branching out on all the different avenues; contacting staff, teachers, counsellors, etc. Purchasing books (exercise book, dictionary, etc) and ensuring they have a comfortable workstation. Are they motivated? Together, it can be a bit of a struggle - yet rewarding experience (as said above!). :)
