Answer:
Don't listen to "Shikambu" He is on here criticizing everybody, but in reality he is dead wrong. You can use a Vanilla Visa Gift Card on Amazon. I know because I just did. Go to the Vanilla Visa website (vanillavisa.com), enter your card info, and click on Register Card. It's true that you can only enter a zip code; go ahead and do that. Once you have registered your zip code, you can go back to Amazon. I bought myself an Amazon gift certificate because the total balance of my shopping cart exceeded my gift card and I wanted to be able to use it toward my shopping cart. So, when I bought my amazon gift certificate and it asked me for my payment method, this is what I did. Of course I entered all of the card information. When it asked me for the name as it appears on the card, I simply entered the Zip Code that I just registered. The gift certificate was purchased and available immediately. Enjoy!

Why do people answer questions online when they don't know the answer? Googling an answer isn't answering their question. Can you use your Vanilla Visa to purchase on Amazon? No. You cannot. Reason: You have to enter your full name as it appears on the card and your billing address.. Guess what? You don't have those on the Vanilla Visa Gift Card. The most you can do when registering the card is add your zip code. That's it. I have it; I went on their website and I called and spoke to a representative on the phone from Vanilla Visa. You can only register the card with your zip and nothing else. A zip code with no street address and no name on your card = NO AMAZON As far as gift cards go, only gift cards that allow you to register your full name and address can be used to purchase anything (including Amazon gift cards) from Amazon. Don't bother reading all these other answers, they're all Googling idiots that bog down answer sites and posts with their nonsense guestimations of what they think the answer is. I hate that.

Vanilla Visa cards are VERY easy to use on amazon. All you have to do is register on amazon, set up your account. Then, sign in, go to my account, and look where it talks about "add a credit card" or payment options. Put your Vanilla Visa in just like you would any credit card. The thing that's important to note about Vanilla Visa's using them online, don't forget to register your card on the vanillavisa website. And the zip code you use for your registration should be the "same exact zip code" you use on your amazon registration and your shipping zip code should be the "exact same zip code"...exactly, because your vanilla visa is verified by the zip code and by that zip code only. Also, it is incorrect when people talk about the fees. There are no longer any additional fees associated with the vanillavisa gift cards. I've used these cards on Amazon for years, no problem.

To use the vanilla visa gift card to make purchases online, not only through amazon, but in general u first have to register your zip code w/ vanilla visa. You can do that either by calling the 800# or online @ http://vanillavisa.com. then when you finish your inline shopping & get ready to 'cash out' that is when you register the card as credit or debit..

some web sites don't accept gift cards the vanilla gift card is a rip off I recently purchased one and tried to use it online. When it was declined by the web site they took my funds and they held them hostage for 7 days so I bought a 100.00 vanilla gift card and was left with 16.00 when all was said and done. Also they have no full registration online and when you try to speak with a rep over the phone you only get a recording which leaves you with e-mail as only form of contact.SO MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE VANILLA GIFT CARD IS NOT A HAPPY ONE.................. DON"T BUY THIS CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can use vanilla visa on the internet, once you register the zip code. When you attempt to purchase anything every web site requires all billing address feilds to be populated. When using the vanilla visa, all feilds for the billing address can be filled with false information (enough to get you through the form) except the zip code, because is used for authentication on the transaction. The other problem I see is the vanilla visa indicates that no overseas transactions can occur, including internet. I interpret this as implying that transactions made on sites hosted overseas could have problems. I was able to use a vanilla visa for a new itunes account a few minutes ago...

Yes YOU CAN. If the Visa gift card doesn't have your name on it then you have to activate and/or register the gift card with your real name and address. The website to activate/register your card should be listed on the back of your gift card. After you activate/register your card you will need to login to your Amazon account and go to the Payment section, and select "Add a Credit or Debit Card." You will not be able to buy anything with the VISA gift card that is over the amount of the card, unless you have some other credit on your account already that is paying part of the purchase. Amazon will treat the gift card just like a credit card, and if you try to charge more than what's on it, it will be rejected. Happy Shopping on Amazon . . .

One respondent to this post has recommended purchasing an Amazon gift card in an equal amount and crediting the Amazon card toward your Amazon purchase. That actually sounds like a pretty good idea that might work. The process should not be that cumbersome, but when it comes to redeeming these ridiculous Visa gift cards, one must be prepared for lots of shenanigans. The one overriding common denominator that users are experiencing with the Visa gift cards (particularly Vanilla Visa) is that they are NOT user friendly. I am really hoping the word gets out there, warning customers to stay clear of these Vanilla Visa cards. They are very problematic to use, and many people are not able to redeem what should be the full card value.
