How long does it take to heal a sprained ankle?

  • I sprained my ankle about 3 1/2 weeks ago and it was a big swollen mess. Three weeks later I still can't fit in my regular shoes and my ankle is still quite a bit swollen. Not alot of pain though. Gotta have my ankles ready for sandal season, how long is this gonna take?

    My suggestion is not to sit around and rest and ice and just wait. Get going on some active rehab for your ankle. It sounds like it desperately needs to be strengthened. Also, since it was a more serious injury, you probably have some scar tissue development, instability in the joint and neuromuscular damage. What that basically means is that you have to rehab the ankle to get it back to 100%. The good news is that the ankle actually responds very well to rehab. Not only will you lower your risk of future injury, but the ankle will heal much faster than if left totally alone. Go see a specialist for a good ankle rehab program or use the at home system called H.E.M. Sprained Ankle Rehab. Best of luck.

in realty i dont know of anyone that got fully healed but it depends how bad you got injured if you tore your ligament

Hi CornFlakeGirl.. Did you happen to go see a doctor at first? It would be nice to know for sure if you have just a sprain.. It wouldn't be good to try to rehabilitate a small fracture. Once you know for sure, I would suggest going through rehab, which will walk you through the steps to take, to alleviate swelling and start to restrengthen your ankle..
