How do I get rid of a congested nose?

If a baby is congested, with a stuffy nose, how do you get the mucus out if he doesn't know how to blow his nose yet?

  • It's still higher up in his nose, so I can't just wipe it off with a tissue. I can't see it, so I doubt the suction bulb will be able to take out anything. I know it must be uncomfortable, since he has the exact symptoms I had last week. For an adult, I just blew my nose hard and often, and I always felt better and breathed better after clearing the stuff out each time. But he doesn't know how to blow! I feel for my baby's discomfort - how do I help him?! He doesn't have any other symptoms, so I'd hate to medicate him if I don't have too.

  • Answer:

nasal irrigation with a cup of warm salt water and a bulb syringe. Baby may hate it but it works.
