How to Sync from an iPhone to an iTunes Library
-
-
Answer:
Syncing your iPhone with your iTunes library is completely optional but provides many benefits. By syncing your devices, you can create a backup of your data, such as media, contacts, Web bookmarks, email settings and calendars, just in case anything erases the information on your iPhone. Syncing is also the most efficient way to keep the information on your iPhone current. Once you've set up syncing, your iPhone will automatically sync with your computer whenever they are connected. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Things You'll Need USB cable included with iPhone Instructions Ensure you are using the most recent version of iTunes. On a PC, open iTunes, click "Help" and select "Check for Updates." For a Mac, open iTunes, click "iTunes" and select "Check for Updates." Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable included with your iPhone. This will automatically prompt iTunes to open. Select your iPhone listed on the left-hand column in iTunes and click the "Info" tab. Choose which media and information to sync from your iPhone to your computer. There will be many options, including music and audiobooks, photos, notes, calendars, contacts and ringtones. Click "Apply" in the lower right corner to sync. If you're syncing for the first time, you will be asked if you want to merge data, replace data on the device or replace data on the computer. Merging will add information from each device to the other. Either option to replace will override the information on either device with information from the other. Once you choose an option, it can't be undone and will be used as your default setting for future syncs. Sync settings can be adjusted whenever your iPhone is connected to your computer. Tips & Warnings Tip: Sync your iPhone with iTunes at least once a week. This way, if something erases the information on your phone, you will have a recent backup to restore with. Syncing often will also reduce the amount of time needed to update with new information.
