How to Connect a DVD Player to a DISH DVR HD Receiver

-
Answer:
As of 2011, Dish Network is one of the two leading satellite television providers. Dish offers its customers a number of options when selecting a satellite receiver, including standard, DVR (digital video recorder) and HD (high definition) receivers. Anyone with an HD TV needs an HD receiver in order to view programming in high definition, and anyone who wishes to record HD programming will need a Dish HD DVR. You can also connect other devices to the TV, such as a DVD player that will allow you to watch DVDs. This is a completely separate connection from the satellite receiver and only requires one or two additional cables. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Things You'll Need HDMI cable OR Component video cable (red, green and blue connectors) Audio cable (red and white connectors) Instructions Unplug the HD television and the DVD player. Place the DVD player near the TV. Do not make any changes to the connections going from the Dish HD DVR receiver to the TV. Check the back of the TV to see what input jacks are available that match the DVD players output jacks. Look for available HDMI jacks on both devices. These jacks provide the best connection and only requires one cable. If they are not available, skip to Step 4. Attach one end of the HDMI cable to the back of the DVD player using the "HDMI Output" jack. Connect the other end of the cable to the back of the HD television using the "HDMI Input" jack. Use a component video cable with red, green and blue connectors if the HDMI jacks are not available. Connect one end of the cable to the back of the DVD player using the "Component Video Out" jacks. Match the connectors to the corresponding jacks of the same color. Connect the other end of the cable to the back of the HD television using the "Component Video In" jacks. This cable provides the picture from the DVD player to the TV. Hook up the audio cable that has red and white connectors to the back of the DVD player using the "Audio Out" jacks. Match the color of the connector to the jack. Connect the other end of this cable to the back of the HD TV using the "Audio In" jacks. This connection provides the sound from the DVD player to the HD television. Plug all devices into a power source and turn them on. Change the "Source" or "Input" selector on the HD television until you locate the DVD player. The Dish Network HD DVR does not need to be on to use the DVD player.
