How to Connect a Comcast DVR Box to a TV

  • Answer:

Comcast digital video recorders, more commonly referred to as DVRs, allow viewers to schedule recordings and view recorded shows whenever they want. For those hoping to save money on installation fees, Comcast allows customers to perform a self-installation. Luckily, connecting the Comcast DVR directly to a television is a simple process, requiring a few basic plug-ins for either a standard stereo television or a high definition television. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Things You'll Need Comcast DVR box Coaxial cable Component or audio video cable Instructions Connecting the DVR to a standard television Plug the audio video cable into the DVR. The audio video cable is color coded yellow for video, and white and red for audio. Connect each plug-in to the identical color in the back of the DVR. Plug the other end of the audio video cable into the television the same way you did to the DVR. Be sure the plug-ins are all connected to the same output because some televisions have multiple audio video outputs. Plug your television power cord into the back of the DVR. The plug-in is on the right corner on the back of the DVR. Plug the RF coaxial cable into the wall outlet by screwing it in. Plug the other end into the RF coaxial output on the DVR coaxial output by screwing it in. Plug the DVR into a wall outlet and turn both the DVR and television on. Change the television to the same video input that you plugged the DVR audio video cables into. Connecting the DVR to a high definition television Plug the component cable into the DVR. The component cable is color coded green, blue and red for the video plug-ins and red and black or white for the audio. You can tell the audio cables apart from the video because the audio cables themselves are colored gray while the video cables are white. Plug the other end of the component cable into the high definition television. Do this the same way you did to the DVR. Note which input you've plugged the component cable into because this is the input you'll need to change your television to in order to access the DVR. Plug your high definition television power cord into the back of the DVR. The plug-in is on the right corner on the back of the DVR. Plug the RF coaxial cable into the wall outlet by screwing it in. Plug the other end into the RF coaxial output on the DVR by screwing it in. Plug the DVR into a wall outlet and turn the high definition television and DVR on. Change the television's video setting to the appropriate component input as noted in Step 2.
