The selections change the input sound mix for the optimal tonal quality. The model is called the ClearChat Comfort USB Headset. The mike is also well placed and the headphones are very comfortable. As one who has been known to game for over 20 hours at a stretch online, comfortable headset is a must, and the one I'm referring to definitely meets that description. It's USB, so it plugs right in without issue. I use an extender cable on mine as the original isn't that long. It's the only real issue I have with it, but most of them are only 6-8 feet. If you're wondering if Bluetooth or USB is better, it depends on how long you play online. The problem with BT headsets is that the battery runs down, and if you don't have a backup you're out until it recharges. USB's don't have that problem.
