Why is taste sight or smell of food stimulates the flow of saliva in mouth?
-
-
Answer:
This happens because your body thinks you are getting ready to eat. So it prepares itself by producing saliva. Most bodily responses to these kinds of stimuli work in this order: 1.) Stimulus - food 2.) Sensor/receptor - eye sees the food 3.) Input - eye sends the signal through a sensory neuron called the optical nerve (also known as cranial nerve II) towards the brain 4.) Interpreter - occipital lobe in the brain (responsible for making sense of what we see) 5.) Output - the signal travels from the brain along the vagus nerve towards the mouth. this is directed by the autonomic nervous system 6.) Target - the saliva glands in your mouth receive the signal and activate the appropriate response, in this case to release saliva.
