How do I go about college transferring?

If I am not planning on transferring to a 4-year college would it be best to go for an associate's degree or occupational degree?

  • Answer:

If you have no intention to transfer to a four year college or university, make sure you have a specific skill. Community colleges offer three types of degrees; The associate of arts (AA), the associates in science (AS), and the associates in applied science (AAS). The AA and AS degrees are typically transfer programs of study. The AAS degree was originally designed as a terminal degree, where the student is given all the expertise necessary to enter the workforce in entry level positions immediately after completion of the degree. Today, many AAS degrees are also transferable, however you really need to meet with a career counselor at the two year institution you attend for detailed information. Thus, to answer your question, I would strongly recommend you look into the AAS degrees, where you will have a specific skill at the end. Many are offered in the technologies, and allied health fields that are good solid career paths.
